Our Story
Located in the picturesque KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, a unique pioneering estate which has positioned itself as a serious single vineyard boutique wine producer in KZN. Abingdon was the first farm in KZN to produce a certified estate wine with their maiden vintage in 2007. The farm was bought in 2000 by owners, Ian & Jane Smorthwaite, and the first vines were planted in 2004. Situated at 1140m above sea level, the Estate has 4ha under vine and produces certified single vineyard Estate wines from 100% Abingdon grapes.
The estate is family run with father & daughter team, Ian Smorthwaite and Laurie Cooper, taking a hands on approach to all aspects of viticulture and wine making.

Corporate
We cater for intimate corporate events up to 60 guests and can offer a unique day tailor made to your specific needs, be it in the form of an informative vineyard and cellar tour with wine tasting, or a fun team building blending competition. Please contact Jane for further information on these as well as menu ideas. Corporate bookings may be arranged on weekdays.
Weddings
We are not a wedding venue as such, but we do take on a few select small weddings each year for couples looking for the perfect Abingdon Wedding. Our weddings are small day time weddings with the emphasis on good wine and good food. Relaxed, outdoors with country charm. We take a maximum of 72 guests and each wedding is uniquely different.
